In 1902, Henri Bourgie established the funeral services company Bourgie H. & Co. and opened a first funeral home.
In the mid-19th century, the company’s name was changed to Urgel Bourgie. In order to meet growing demand, the company branched out, adding new services such as embalming, funeral services and manufacturing coffins and hearses. The company also opened several other funeral homes in Montreal.
Since then, Urgel Bourgie has continued to grow, acquiring many other funeral service companies, including the Parc Commémoratif de Montréal, the Jardins des Laurentides in St-Hubert, Laval’s Parc du Souvenir and the Feron funeral homes in Greater Montreal.
The company has also bought out several well-known funeral homes in the Quebec City area, including J. Bouchard et Fils, Lépine Cloutier, the Parc Commémoratif, La Souvenance, the Jardins Québec and Falardeau Bédard Roy.
